Welcome to our Kentucky family farm bed and breakfast!
Everyone here is committed to an environmentally-friendly way of living, working, and eating.
Year-round, our all-natural pastures are home to:
• dogs, & cats.
On occasional months throughout the year,
• baby chicks,
• goat kids are maturing in our barns, or perhaps you’ll get to see
• a herd of grass-finished beef cattle gently grazing.
Rotating the animals through our pastures every several days not only offers new “salad greens” for a healthy diet, it also maintains the balance that nature intended between animals, forage, & soil. Our hens produce beautiful brown farm fresh eggs which we sell and serve. These all-natural eggs are high in Omega-3 fatty acids, beta carotene, and Vitamins A, D & E. The bright orange yolks signify high forage content in the hens’ diet. Low in cholesterol and saturated fat, our eggs are good and good for you.
Come see our extensive all-natural garden full of produce, herbs, and heirloom varieties during the growing season. This bounty often finds its way to the Dining Room table throughout the year as we work toward consistently providing meals that are seasonal, local, and all-natural.
The farm-stay encourages a hands-on approach to our guests. Activities include gathering chicken eggs for breakfast, feeding goats, petting horses, moving livestock to new pasture, planting, mulching, gathering or processing the harvest from the garden! Everyone on a farm is important – whether animal, vegetable or you!
Individual/Group Farm Tours are available by reservation. More details of Activities On The Farm below.
About the People and History at the Kentucky farm B & B
Mix together an artist, a chemistry whiz, an anthropologist and a woman who kept two pygmy goats and a full chicken coop in a New England suburb and what do you get? A Comfortable country hospitality bed and breakfast, beyond-organic farming, green-living practices, and the arts -- with a focus on local foods, artisans, history and culture. In 2007, when Darlene Rose found this breath-taking haven in Munfordville, minutes off I-65, and met Kentucky’s friendly people, she knew this was the perfect place on earth for her to fulfill her lifelong dream of running a bed and breakfast on a working farm and cooking in great big pots. As Innkeeper, her intent is to allow guests to be immersed in farm-style “green” living in a relaxing, interactive way. The ambiance is enhanced for the guests by the crafting of a unique home-away-from-home experience for each traveler through the décor, Full Country Breakfasts, and great story-telling around the table. Guests are encouraged to recount their own “farm” experiences and make new ones as memories flood into the conversation of long ago visits to “grandma on the farm” and “making ravioli on the kitchen table” to “running through the neighbor’s cow pasture” as a child.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle is put into practice here on the B & B Farm.
Eighteen months after ground breaking, Darlene and her four daughters opened Country Girl at Heart Farm Bed & Breakfast’s doors to the public following an extensive “green”- renovation. With no prior experience, their synergy has successfully worked through the entrepreneurial learning curve of planning, developing, constructing, marketing, and now running a unique center of hospitality. Touring through the converted Amish farmhouse is an almost unexplainable experience as guests are immersed into the melding of “green”, environmentally-friendly and sustainable practices with comfy, classy decorating and design. They built the 5,000 sq. ft. addition with Insulated Concrete Forms (poured concrete walls), chose blown-in cellulose insulation, and placed sun pipes in several of the bathrooms to maximize natural light from the sun and decrease electric costs. The result is home style inspiration and old-fashioned common sense to offer good country cookin’ and an opportunity to have a personal farm experience!
